MENTOR PROGRAM OF GREATER SACRAMENTO
RECEIVES NATIONAL AWARD
The ACE Mentor Program of Greater Sacramento is pleased to announce recent national recognition as winner of the Emerging Affiliate of the Year Award. Honored at the recent Annual All Affiliates Conference in San Diego on January 27, 2009, ACE Sacramento representatives, Stephanie Davi Ercolini, Director of Regional Programs (West), and Joe Bean of Teichert Construction, Chair, ACE Sacramento Board of Directors, joined 125 people from 76 affiliates from across the country to discuss best practices, honor award recipients, and examine how to best continue to serve our country’s students. Keynote speaker and founder of the ACE National Mentor Program, Charlie Thornton, was present to lead the discussion and inspire continued growth.
Emerging Affiliate of the Year was awarded to ACE Sacramento as recognition of their success and dedication to the ACE Mentor Program. On hand to present the award were Pamela Mullender, President of ACE Mentor Program of America, Inc., and Norbert Young of McGraw-Hill Construction, Inc., Vice-Chair of the ACE Board. As Emerging Affiliate of the Year, ACE Sacramento will receive $10,000 to further grow their program, which works to pair high school students with an interest in careers with the construction industry and mentors from regional commercial construction industry firms. Monies received and generated through fundraising efforts go to fuel program development and scholarship funding. Last year, alone, over $8,000 in student scholarships were awarded as a result of ACE Sacramento efforts.
The ACE Sacramento affiliate launched its pilot year with support from the Sacramento Builders’ Exchange (SBE) in 2007 with just one high school, 25 students and seven mentors. Last year, the program grew to three high schools, serving 50 students with approximately 24 mentors representing 14 different local firms. Interest in the ACE Sacramento program has continued to skyrocket throughout the region, with an anticipated third year involvement of thirteen schools, serving some 350 students guided by nearly 96 mentors from 75 firms.
SBE was recognized for their commitment in bringing the ACE Program to Sacramento, and for their continued support. Present to receive the award were ACE Sacramento Board Chair Joe Bean of Teichert Construction, Director of ACE Programs (West) Stephanie Davi Ercolini, and Sacramento Builders’ Exchange Executive Vice President James Lambert.
In 2008/2009, ACE Sacramento is proud to have the following schools participating in our program: Calvine High School, Elk Grove Casa Roble High School, Orangevale Cordova High School, Rancho Cordova Galt High School, Galt Granite Bay High School, Granite Bay Kennedy High School, Sacramento Lincoln High School, Stockton Oak Ridge High School, El Dorado Hills Oakmont High School, Roseville Rio Linda High School, Rio Linda River City High School, West Sacramento San Juan High School, Citrus Heights Sheldon High School, Elk Grove

About the ACE Mentor Program
The ACE Mentor Program was founded by the principals of leading design and construction firms to introduce high school students to career opportunities in the industry. The mission of the organization is twofold: to enlighten and motivate students toward architecture, construction, engineering, and related careers; and to provide mentoring opportunities for future designers and constructors. ACE makes a special attempt to reach students that otherwise may not become aware of the challenges and rewards of a career in the design and construction industry.
